Although we are not blessed with a lot of sun here in Ireland, we would all benefit from learning a little more about 'Sun Sense', whether it’s while we’re going about our day-to-day business here at home, or when travelling abroad. Not only does the sun cause the painful effects of sun burn, but continous over-exposure over time can lead to skin cancer.
How to be safe in the sun
Whether you’re at home or abroad, you need to be ‘Sun Smart’. 80-85% of the sun’s rays travel through clouds so we’re not always safe when we think we are!
In line with guidelines recommended by the Irish Cancer Society, Unicarepharmacy only stocks sun care products with a UV protection level of factor 15 and above.
Remembering these important points will help protect you and your family against the dangers of the sun:
When choosing what Sun Protection product to use, follow these simple steps:
Step 1 – Right Factor
Choose the right sun protection factor for your skin type
Step 2 – Right Amount
Use the right amount of sun cream and re-apply regularly
Step 3 – Right After
Ensure you apply an after-sun in the evening to protect against dry skin. Treat any burns with suitable products and avoid further exposure.
Remember that young children and babies are far more prone to the harmful effects of the sun so extra care must be taken.
Our in-store colleagues are fully trained on the Sun Smart principles laid down by the Irish Cancer Society. They will provide you with invaluable advice on staying safe in the sun and recommend the suitable products for you and your family.
